The end-of-year celebration is a prayerful and joyful gathering that gives thanks to God for the blessings of the past year. The celebration usually begins with a Holy Mass, during which the congregation reflects on God’s guidance, mercy, and faithfulness throughout the year. Special prayers of thanksgiving are offered for the parish community, families, leaders, and ministries.
The church is often decorated simply but beautifully, using candles, flowers, and symbols of gratitude to create a reverent atmosphere. Hymns of praise and thanksgiving are sung, helping the faithful express joy and hope as the year comes to a close. After Mass, there may be short speeches or acknowledgments recognizing volunteers, church workers, and parish groups for their service. In many parishes, the celebration continues with a fellowship gathering, where members share food, conversation, and joy, strengthening the sense of community.
Nebbi Catholic Diocese began as part of the Gulu Apostolic Vicariate established in 1923. Its growth was supported by early parishes, Comboni missionaries, early Christians, local leaders, and the first catechists, all of whom contributed greatly to the development of the diocese.
